Embrace Your Mistakes
Recently, my husband and I visited the Bluemont Vineyard in northern Virginia. When we arrived, we noticed and commented on a stink bug crawling across the counter. The owner casually replied, “Oh, they’re everywhere. Just part of the scenery.” And she moved on to explain the complexities of the Sauvignon Blank we were about to try.
It was only afterwards that I realized how gracefully she handled what could have been an uncomfortable situation. Her relaxed attitude put us at ease and helped us focus on what was really important – the wine. We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful winery – the stink bugs did not take away from this in the least!
From the Green Room: Emotions are contagious. If you suffer when you make a mistake, your audience will suffer with you. If you can instead embrace your mistakes, you might even find that your slip-up turns into one of the best moments of your presentation.
